Dan Bailey
Dan Bailey began drumming and guitar at the age of 8. He started songwriting young, and studied African rhythm with his godfather and mentor, world renowned master drummer Babatunde Olatunji. By the age of 12, he was making a living as a professional musician through teaching and performing. At 19, he traveled solo around the world: surfing, meeting musicians, recording, performing and writing already more than a lifetime's worth of original material. Upon his return to New York, he founded Idris Records and released 5 albums, including 2 albums of his original music.
With his deep roots in African drumming, Dan Bailey has a worldly and otherworldly intuition for rhythm. While strongly influenced by reggae's vibe and message, he is known for his unique use of rhythmic changes between reggae, Latin, African, folk, rock, blues and ska beats. Yet while incorporating multiple changes within a single song, he affirms his original creative style as the changes build and release energy.
Possibly the most distinctive element of Dan Bailey's music is it's wholly positive message, captured and delivered with the natural embodiment of a rock star. With his drummer's paws and shaggy mane, those who meet him immediately recognize his personification of an African lion. A true Leo, Dan is a natural leader, commanding performer and cannot fail to attract the energy of fellow enlightened individuals and musicians.
Most recently, Dan Bailey has built a community of drummers and musicians of all ages, with whom he has developed one of the summer's hottest Hamptons events: the Monday Night drum circle. By his 27th birthday, over 1500 people came to party on the beach in a festival of timeless rhythm. Starring in the weekly performances demands some of Dan's most intense energy, yet he pours it freely into the open event in addition to his band’s weekly performances at the Hamptons' hottest venues and events.
In the off season, Dan Bailey works in NYC and the Hamptons, recording, developing his new line-up of musicians and making music with some of the industry's most treasured professionals. He also continues to dedicate time to exotic journeys, influencing the breadth of his music’s experience. This year, Dan will travel South America, studying Latin music in depth and attending Carnival, the largest musical event in the world. Upon his return, with the summer energy and clientele of the Hamptons, and access to New York City's world class musicians and fan base, Dan Bailey is perfectly poised to deliver his message to the world.
